About
Peter McGrath is an Associate Lecturer in the School of Sports, Tourism and the Outdoors, UCLan and a Research Assistant for the Institute of Transport and Tourism. Peter’s current research interests revolve around the emerging concept of slow travel. Slow travel is an emerging concept which is referred to as a trip made using non-aviation methods for departure. The term is currently creeping into the tourism academic literature but tends to be ill-defined. It has, however, developed media attention and is of increasing interest to the tourism practitioner sector. Early research suggests that it draws some parallels with sustainable and responsible travel which begs the question: ‘Is the term slow travel simply a re-packaging of such existing terms?’ The research aims to explore the underpinning values, attitudes, and motivations of slow travellers.
Peter is currently working on a doctoral thesis on this subject with Professor Les Lumsdon at the Institute.
